About me

I’m an experienced SEO with more than 15 years experience in digital. I’ve worked in-house and agency-side in that time, covering clients in diverse sectors including ecommerce, publishing and financial services among others.

I believe in a people-first approach and that good SEO comes from a collaborative, joined up approach within organisations. I advocate for a progressive, research led approach which blends quantitative data with real user insights.

Experience

My first experience in digital began around 2005, while working for a small retailer. They needed someone to maintain their basic website, so I volunteered. At first this was relatively simple – keep the inventory up-to-date. Before too long, I was updating content, learning code and making improvements. The site began to generate more sales and went from a small proportion of the company’s revenue to something far more substantial.

In that time I also began creating my own sites, using WordPress to allow me to explore personal interests, improve my writing an continuing to build my technical skills.

I then moved agency-side and began to specialise in SEO, in mid 2011 – right between the Panda and Penguin algorithm launches. While this was a period of upheaval for the SEO industry, I was fortunate in that I’d already developed a wider digital skillset and wasn’t reliant on the practices Google was now clamping down on.

The greatest benefit of working within an agency is the variety and potential to learn.
